PREDICTIVE MAINTENANCE & DIGITAL TWIN
Optimizing Change Impact Analysis with a Digital Thread across complex multi-physics designs and operations
In this session you will see how multi-physic simulations may be combined with IoT data for improved confidence, as well as how Digital Thread allows tasks such as change impact analysis to be performed in minutes.
A Digital Twin can comprise many different pieces. In the design space there are work items, requirements, designs, test cases, CAD models, multi-physics simulations, a bill of materials in a PLM tool. In the operations space you may have an IoT Platform receiving live data from sensors in the field, and that data may be fed back into engineering to provide higher fidelity data for the simulations or to confirm design decisions.
However, these pieces do not stand alone – they have to be connected together for traceability, particularly when working in an industry that has to comply with standards such as DO178B/C in aerospace and ISO26262 in automotive – both of which mandate traceability. Assessing the impact of a change to a requirement – or the change of a part – across the lifecycle, is a task that (without an effective Digital Thread) can take days or even weeks of manual effort.
