Workshop 5 - Wednesday, June 20 from 14h00 to 17h30
HPC, CLOUD AND EMBEDDED (HPC IN THE LOOP)
Leveraging engineering cloud solutions to cover burst capacities – Challenges & Outlook
The mega trends in many industries, such as e.g. Automotive, Marine & Offshore, or Aerospace, will be hard to realize without any new industry standards for simplifying and speeding-up simulation processes.
Especially with Industry 4.0 and Digital Transformation, engineers are subjected to an increasing demand of computing resources, a limited access to in-house solutions and a lack of service orientated infrastructures.
More often inhouse computing resources can’t match up with the growing need for simulation.
This presentation describes a real-life customer use case considering initially the engineers' challenges & requirements (e.g. security, access, cloud usage models, licensing, budget etc.). Dr. Ramin Torabi will give an impression of how the customer’s request was finally implemented including going through the different phases of testing, onboarding and productive usage.

Biography : Dr. Ramin Torabi is the head of the infrastructure department of CPU 24/7 since 2015.
Prior to that he planned and maintained several international HPC-CAE clusters for Volkswagen Group and its daughter brands as an HPC consultant/engineer at GNS Systems GmbH.
He holds a PHD in physics. His thesis is based on simulations performed at the HPC-Systems deployed at the "Gesellschaft für Schwerionenforschung mbH". |
