Announced in October 2018, Cray “Shasta™” exascale-class supercomputer is an entirely new design and is set to be the technology to underpin the next era of supercomputing, characterized by exascale performance capability, new data-centric workloads, and  heterogeneous computing. The exascale-class, data-centric Shasta architecture is built to run the fastest and most diverse workloads at the same time. It eliminates the distinction between clusters and supercomputers and allows for multiple processor and accelerator architectures and a choice of system interconnect technologies, including the Cray-designed Slingshot™ interconnect. Cray Shasta systems already announced include Perlmutter pre-exascale system at NERSC and Aurora at Argonne National Laboratory, the first U.S. exascale supercomputer.

The Cray EMEA Research Lab CERL performs R&D in strategic areas that strengthen Cray’s leadership in HPC and data analytics, and which deepen Cray’s involvement in the scientific and technical communities of EMEA.
